B.Pharm Second Year Syllabus
The Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) is a four-year, eight-semester degree. PCI has mandated a revised NEP 2020-aligned syllabus for all approved institutions from the 2026-27 session. Alongside the classical pharmacy subjects, it introduces computing, data science and AI throughout the programme — Python, machine learning, data analytics and AI applications are now core courses.
Semester III — theory subjects
Introduction to Machine Learning in Pharmaceutical Sciences
NEP newCore machine-learning concepts; supervised and unsupervised learning; model building and evaluation; applications of ML in drug discovery, formulation and pharmaceutical data.
Environmental Sciences
Ecosystems and biodiversity; environmental pollution and its control; sustainability and green practices relevant to the pharmaceutical industry.
Ethics and Universal Human Values
Professional ethics; moral values and human conduct; ethical decision-making in pharmacy practice and research.
General Pharmacology
Principles of drug action; pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics; routes of administration; introduction to autonomic nervous system pharmacology.
Heterocyclic Compounds and Stereochemistry
Chemistry of heterocyclic ring systems found in drugs; stereochemistry, isomerism and optical activity, and their relevance to drug action.
Pharmaceutical Dosage Forms I
Formulation, manufacture and evaluation of solid and liquid dosage forms — tablets, capsules, solutions, suspensions and emulsions.
Pharmaceutical Engineering
Unit operations — flow of fluids, heat and mass transfer, size reduction, mixing, drying, filtration, distillation and evaporation; equipment and processes.
Pharmaceutical Microbiology
Structure and classification of microorganisms; sterilization and disinfection; aseptic techniques; microbial assays and sterility testing.
Semester IV — theory subjects
Herbal Drug Technology
Standardization, formulation and evaluation of herbal drugs; nutraceuticals and cosmeceuticals; regulatory aspects and quality control of herbal products.
Medicinal Chemistry
Drug-design principles; structure–activity relationships (SAR); chemistry, synthesis and mechanism of major therapeutic drug classes.
Pharmaceutical Biotechnology
Recombinant DNA technology; fermentation and production of biologicals; enzymes, vaccines, monoclonal antibodies and biopharmaceuticals.
Social Pharmacy and Public Health
Public health, epidemiology and national health programmes; preventive healthcare, nutrition and health education; the pharmacist in the community.
Systemic Pharmacology I
Pharmacology of drugs acting on the autonomic and central nervous systems and the cardiovascular system.
Plus: Mandatory Internship. Each theory course has a paired practical.
What's new in NEP 2020: the revised B.Pharm curriculum weaves computing and data science through the whole degree — Python programming, applied data analytics, machine learning and AI applications are now core subjects alongside the classical pharmaceutical sciences.
