Unit 1 · Fluid Flow and Size Reduction 12 hrs
The principle, construction, working, advantages, disadvantages and pharmaceutical applications of equipment for the flow of fluids and for size reduction and size separation — including the laws governing size reduction, and mills, sieves and classifiers used in pharmaceutical practice.
Unit 2 · Heat Transfer and Mixing 12 hrs
The principle, construction, working, advantages, disadvantages and pharmaceutical applications of heat-transfer equipment and of mixing equipment for liquids, semisolids and solids.
Unit 3 · Filtration, Crystallization and Centrifugation 12 hrs
The theory and mechanisms of filtration, filter media and filter aids; crystallization theory and equipment; centrifugation; and the pharmaceutical applications of each.
Unit 4 · Evaporation, Drying and Distillation 5 hrs
The principle, construction and working of evaporators, dryers and distillation equipment, together with their pharmaceutical applications.
Unit 5 · Materials and Material Handling 4 hrs
Materials of construction for pharmaceutical plant; material-handling equipment and techniques including conveyors, hoists and automated guided vehicles (AGVs); storage systems such as bins and silos in warehouses; and safety considerations in material handling.
