About this book
Polytechnic Mathematics-II by Dr. D.C. Agarwal, Dr. Pradeep K. Joshi and Dr. Pooja Agarwal is written strictly to the AICTE-based OCBC 2023 diploma curriculum of RGPV Bhopal — the Second Semester (Group A) Mathematics-II paper (code 7357), covering all five prescribed units in the exact order the university examines them.
The five units — Determinants & Matrices (up to third order, Cramer's rule, algebra and types of matrices, adjoint and inverse), Integral Calculus (integration by substitution and by parts, definite integration and area under curves), Co-ordinate Geometry (straight lines, the circle and the conics), Vector Algebra (scalar and vector products and their applications) and Differential Equations (order, degree and first-order variable-separable equations) — are each explained with worked examples and practice problems, with the question-paper blueprint kept in view.
Built on the AICTE national model diploma curriculum, so it also suits second-semester diploma students under other AICTE-aligned state boards. Published by Shree Sai Prakashan, Meerut. Also available in Hindi as पॉलिटेकिनक गणित-II.
Syllabus coverage
See the full Paper 7357 syllabus →Unit 1 · Determinants and Matrices
Value of determinants up to third order; consistency of equations; Cramer's rule (two variables); algebra of matrices, types of matrices, transpose, adjoint and inverse of a matrix.
Unit 2 · Integral Calculus
Integration as the inverse of differentiation; integration by substitution and by parts; definite integration; application of integration to areas bounded by a curve and the axes.
Unit 3 · Co-ordinate Geometry
Equation of a straight line in standard forms; angle between two lines; parallel and perpendicular lines; general equation of a circle and its characteristics; introduction to conic sections and the standard forms of the parabola, ellipse and hyperbola.
Unit 4 · Vector Algebra
Definition, notation and rectangular resolution of a vector; addition and subtraction of vectors; scalar and vector products of two vectors; applications of the vector product (area of a triangle and parallelogram, perpendicular unit vector) and simple problems on work.
Unit 5 · Differential Equations
Order and degree of a differential equation; general and particular solutions of a first-order, first-degree differential equation by the variable-separation method.
