D.Pharma Second Year Syllabus

The Diploma in Pharmacy (D.Pharma) is a two-year programme regulated across India by the Pharmacy Council of India under Education Regulation 2020. The same syllabus applies to every state pharmacy council, and graduates must clear the Diploma in Pharmacy Exit Examination (DPEE) to register as pharmacists.

Six theory courses moving into pharmacology, patient care and pharmacy practice — followed by the mandatory DPEE.

Theory subjects

Pharmacology

ER20-21T · 75 hours

General pharmacology; drugs acting on the autonomic and central nervous systems, cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal and endocrine systems; chemotherapy and antimicrobials; basics of toxicology.

Community Pharmacy & Management

ER20-22T · 75 hours

Community pharmacy practice and standards; prescription handling and dispensing; patient counselling; inventory, accounting and business management; health-screening services.

Biochemistry & Clinical Pathology

ER20-23T · 75 hours

Biomolecules — carbohydrates, lipids, proteins; enzymes and metabolism; introduction to clinical pathology; analysis of blood and urine and its interpretation.

Pharmacotherapeutics

ER20-24T · 75 hours

Therapeutic management of common disorders across body systems; rational use of drugs; drug interactions and adverse reactions; evidence-based treatment approaches.

Hospital & Clinical Pharmacy

ER20-25T · 75 hours

Hospital pharmacy organisation and standards; drug distribution systems; the hospital formulary; clinical pharmacy services and pharmaceutical care.

Pharmacy Law & Ethics

ER20-26T · 75 hours

The Pharmacy Act 1948; the Drugs and Cosmetics Act; the NDPS Act; pharmaceutical jurisprudence and professional ethics.

Note: After the second year, every D.Pharma graduate must clear the Diploma in Pharmacy Exit Examination (DPEE) — conducted nationally, twice a year — to register as a pharmacist.
