D.Pharma First Year Syllabus

The Diploma in Pharmacy (D.Pharma) is a two-year programme regulated across India by the Pharmacy Council of India under Education Regulation 2020. The same syllabus applies to every state pharmacy council, and graduates must clear the Diploma in Pharmacy Exit Examination (DPEE) to register as pharmacists.

Five theory courses with paired practicals, building the scientific foundation of pharmacy.

Theory subjects

Pharmaceutics

ER20-11T · 75 hours

History of pharmacy and the pharmacopoeias (IP, BP, USP); packaging materials; unit operations — size reduction, size separation, mixing, filtration, drying, extraction and distillation; dosage forms — powders, liquids, semisolids, suppositories and sterile products; prescription handling and dispensing.

Pharmaceutical Chemistry

ER20-12T · 75 hours

Acids, bases and buffers; sources and types of impurities; inorganic pharmaceuticals and their assays; fundamentals of organic chemistry; the chemistry of major drug classes.

Pharmacognosy

ER20-13T · 75 hours

Introduction to crude drugs and their classification; cultivation, collection and processing; carbohydrates, glycosides, alkaloids, volatile oils, tannins and resins; herbal formulations and nutraceuticals.

Human Anatomy & Physiology

ER20-14T · 75 hours

Cell and tissues; the skeletal, muscular, nervous, cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, urinary, endocrine and reproductive systems and their functions.

Social Pharmacy

ER20-15T · 75 hours

Concept of health and disease; national health programmes; nutrition and health; epidemiology; communicable and non-communicable diseases; first aid; family planning; introduction to pharmacovigilance.
