Why this book

  • Strictly as per PCI NEP 2020 (BP104T): all five units in the official syllabus order across a 60-hour course.
  • Structure, function AND disorders together: each system is paired with the pathophysiology of its common diseases, as the NEP syllabus requires.
  • Full coverage: cell and tissues; integumentary, skeletal and muscular systems; blood, lymphatic system and inflammation; the peripheral nervous system and special senses; and the cardiovascular system.
  • Clinically relevant: rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis, anaemias, glaucoma, hypertension, arrhythmias, heart failure and ischaemic heart disease.
  • Simple, exam-focused English for a demanding foundational paper.

About this book

Human Anatomy, Physiology and Pathophysiology I (BP104T) is one of the largest and most foundational papers of B.Pharm First Year, and the NEP 2020 syllabus now integrates pathophysiology directly with anatomy and physiology. This textbook follows that official structure exactly, so students learn each body system together with the disorders that affect it.

Its five units cover an introduction to the human body with the cell and tissues (including the basic principles of cell injury and adaptation); the integumentary, skeletal and muscular systems (with psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis and gout); blood, the lymphatic system and inflammation (with the common anaemias and haemophilia); the peripheral nervous system and special senses (with glaucoma, cataract and vertigo); and the cardiovascular system (with hypertension, arrhythmias, congestive heart failure and ischaemic heart disease).

Written in clear, exam-focused English and organised so that a large syllabus stays manageable, it prepares students thoroughly for their university examination. Authored by Dr. Narendra Silawat and published by Shree Sai Prakashan, Meerut, for B.Pharm First Year students at every PCI-approved institution.

Unit 1 · Introduction to the Human Body, Cells & Tissues 12 hrs

The scope of anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology; levels of structural organization, homeostasis and anatomical terminology; the structure and functions of the cell, transport across the membrane, cell division and cell signalling; the classification of tissues; and the basic principles of cell injury, adaptation (atrophy, hypertrophy, hyperplasia, metaplasia, dysplasia) and cell death.

Unit 2 · Integumentary, Skeletal & Muscular Systems 12 hrs

Structure and functions of skin and wound healing, with psoriasis, dermatitis and leprosy; the skeletal system — bones of the axial and appendicular skeleton, joints, muscle contraction and the neuromuscular junction; and the pathophysiology of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis and gout.

Unit 3 · Blood, Lymphatic System & Inflammation 12 hrs

Body fluids and blood — composition, haemopoiesis, coagulation, blood grouping and transfusion; the lymphatic system; the basic mechanism of inflammation and repair; and haematological diseases — iron-deficiency and megaloblastic anaemia, sickle-cell anaemia, thalassaemia and haemophilia.

Unit 4 · Peripheral Nervous System & Special Senses 12 hrs

The peripheral nervous system — sympathetic and parasympathetic divisions and the spinal and cranial nerves; and the structure and functions of the eye, ear, nose and tongue, with the pathophysiology of glaucoma, cataract, myopia, otitis, vertigo and anosmia.

Unit 5 · Cardiovascular System 12 hrs

Anatomy of the heart and blood vessels, the conduction system, cardiac cycle and cardiac output, and the regulation of blood pressure and pulse; and the pathophysiology of hypertension, cardiac arrhythmias, congestive heart failure and ischaemic heart disease (angina, myocardial infarction, atherosclerosis).
