Unit 1 · Introduction to Intellectual Property 6 hrs
The definition and scope of intellectual property; its importance to the pharmaceutical sector; and the principal types of intellectual property and the rights each confers.
Unit 2 · Patents — Fundamentals and Process 6 hrs
The definition and objectives of patents; the criteria for patentability including novelty, non-obviousness and utility; the types of patents and non-patentable inventions; and the patent-filing and prosecution process.
Unit 3 · Patent Laws and Acts 6 hrs
An overview of the Indian Patents Act 1970 with its latest amendments and key provisions; its impact on the Indian pharmaceutical sector; and compulsory licensing, patent opposition and revocation.
Unit 4 · Trademarks, Copyrights and Designs 6 hrs
Trademarks and their registration and protection; copyright and related rights; industrial designs; and geographical indications, with pharmaceutical examples of each.
Unit 5 · IPR in the Pharmaceutical Industry 6 hrs
International IPR frameworks including TRIPS and the WIPO treaties; data exclusivity and patent-term extension; technology transfer and licensing; and case studies of intellectual-property disputes in pharmaceuticals.
